What Does a Caregiver Do?
Your in-home caregiver job at Homewatch CareGivers® is anything but typical. As a local team member, you may work with many different individuals. You’ll help create and follow customized care plans designed to help you get to know each client, from understanding their likes and dislikes to knowing about unique routines that bring joy to their lives.

Companionship Care
Provide clients with enriching, engaging, and empowering companion care that can help with feelings of loneliness that many seniors experience.
Who you are:
Companion jobs are suitable for anyone who wants to help others. You may have cared for loved ones, have prior professional caregiving experience, or are on a path to becoming a nurse, therapist, or healthcare professional. No specific degrees or certifications are required to apply. You will be provided with training and any necessary licenses (which vary by state).
What you’ll do:
- Support your clients’ well-being by building personal connections, creating meaningful social engagement, helping with independence, and providing security.
- Assist with shopping, light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and other instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
- Assist those who can walk, wash, dress, eat, groom, and use the toilet independently. You may provide encouragement, help oversee activities, provide setup assistance, etc.
- Document all visits.

Designed to provide additional assistance to help patients be independent. The amount of assistance with personal care services will vary depending on the client's mobility and mental abilities.
Who you are:
Job requirements will vary by state and position.
What you’ll do:
- All the duties of Companionship Care.
- Assist with activities of daily living: washing, walking, dressing and grooming, eating, bathroom assistance, etc.
- Record changes in the client's level of ability.

Caring for a client with progressed or complex care needs by providing moderate to extensive assistance with ADLs or IADLs.
Who you are:
This care level will require a caregiver trained in more advanced complex personal care skills. Job requirements will vary by state and position.
What you’ll do:
- Support the client's overall well-being by building a meaningful connection, assuring autonomy, and providing safety and security.
- Help bathe, dress, groom, and assist with other things people do throughout the day.
- Provide care for clients with special and/or chronic care conditions such as dementia or people who have had a stroke.

Private Duty Nurse
Provide skilled nursing care to meet medically complex clients’ needs.
Who you are:
A licensed practical nurse (LPN), licensed vocational nurse (LVN), or registered nurse (RN) with a passion for providing customized in-home care.
What you’ll do:
- Monitor vital signs.
- Blood draws.
- Medication management.
- Help clients correctly use medical equipment.
- Manage catheters and ostomies.
- Tube feeding.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments.
- Secure referrals for clients.

How do you become a caregiver for a family member?
If you’re providing care for a family member who has a long-term care policy or other home care coverage, Homewatch CareGivers can onboard you as a staff member. This makes you eligible for ongoing training and support, and we’ll make sure you get paid for your caregiving efforts.
Are part-time caregiver jobs available?
Yes, many of our locations offer part-time caregiver positions. Schedule an interview with your local Homewatch CareGivers to see if they are currently hiring part-time care providers.
How do I become a caregiver with Homewatch CareGivers?
No matter what your level of caregiving experience or training is, the first step is to schedule an interview. If we find you’re a good fit, we’ll run national background and DMV checks. Once those come back clear, we’ll carefully pair you with a client (or clients) who share your interests or background. We look forward to getting to know you!
