An estimated 6.7 million Americans are living with dementia as of 2023 according to Alzheimer’s Association.
Once a family member or friend is diagnosed with dementia, it is important to take quick action. Eating healthy and staying active is key to maintaining the person’s quality of life. Meaningful engagement is another key element. Websters defines engagement as ‘emotional involvement or commitment’. It is important to keep the person social as well as engaged with activities that are meaningful to them such as cooking, exercise, going outdoors, household work, going to church; in other words, doing the things they love to do. Activity should be based on the person’s level of interest, ability and willingness to participate. Using the Eden Alternative principles and the THINK PEACE Methodology, we are uniquely able to provide the special care needed. One of the Eden Alternative principles is that “meaningless activity corrodes the human spirit;” Meaning is unique to each of us and is essential to us to experience a life worth living.
