Employee Spotlight is a new Homewatch CareGivers of Crystal Lakeblog seriesmeant to surface stories of the amazing individuals behind our local caregiving service. From office workers and owners to the actual caregivers in the field, each week, you’ll get to hear stories from our team so you can get to know the people who makes us who we are.

Vivian has worked as the Client Care Coordinator for Homewatch CareGivers (HWCG) of Crystal Lake since last year. Her primary role is in client and caregiver scheduling, client communications and staff planning. Before starting her position here, she worked at GE until she decided to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN). After receiving her can license in 2003, worked in an assisted living community, but when she connected with a woman who had multiple sclerosis (MS) she realized that one-on-one care was her true passion. Vivian started working for her and the match was a perfect fit for both of them and led to Vivian providing care for her for almost 15 years.

When asked what she learned in this type of work, Vivian recalled the unique relationship between a caregiver and client. “Because MS gradually takes away independence as it progresses,” she said. “My role became more and more important in her life.” Vivian sees her job as a caregiver to ensure that her client maintained as much dignity and independence as possible.

With her experience, Vivian is now able to provide oversight in client-caregiving matching for our team. Finding the right match between caregivers and clients is essential to the experience of all parties involved, and that’s why Vivian works tirelessly to ensure that everyone is happy with their fit, and if they are not, she does whatever she can to ensure a great fit.

When Vivian is not at work, she enjoys cooking meals with and for her grandchildren, and loves looking for treasure with her metal detector in fields, beaches and parks. She remembered once uncovering a set of dog-tags from 1957 in a field which sparked her imagination and excited her curiosity. She enjoys treasure hunting because it is both calming and gives her special connections with the past through the recovery of old, lost trinkets.
